Fibromyalgia affects the Muscles of the HumanBody, most specifically the ConnectiveTissue (tendons, ligaments, bursa, etc.). This ChronicCondition affects women more often than men. There is no viral, fungal, or bacterial cause known thus far. The American Medical Association recognized it as a legitimate medical condition in 1987 although descriptions of fibromyalgia-like conditions have been found as early as the 1800s. Symptoms include chronic pain and tiredness. Some theories suggest that the disorder could be a result of trauma (such as a car accident), severe stress during child birth, a prolonged period of emotional stress (such as grieving and depression), and/or that certain peoples' pain receptors may be more prone to the syndrome. It is no longer found to be true that inflammation occurs in the muscles affected; so, the name 'fibrositis' is no longer used.
